For us who found ourselves from traveling as a couple to traveling as a family of four, literally from one day to the next, this is a problem we had to come up with a solution soon.
We recently traveled to the UK with our then 2y7m old twins. Flights are tricky as we all know, as they require smart packing, a lot of thinking and the ability to be fast and effective. We didn’t pack much, just as much as we could carry actually. And since we also have to carry the boys, this isn’t much. We are far more comfortable with road trips, so we gave this a lot of thinking and we tried to be as light as possible.
Our flights to and from Luton, UK were not the easiest situation we’ve gone through as parents of twin toddlers… Our first flight with them was not easy either (crying, a broken stroller and not being able to stand as they were lap babies, to sum it up). And it was just under an hour and the babies were 8 months old… So 2 almost 4 hour flights with cranky toddlers is understood to have not gone smoothly.
They say that it’s harder to travel with toddlers 18 to 24 months old than any other age. We only read about that after 5 trips though. So, having travelled with our twin toddlers to Nafplio, Xylokastro, South Pelion, Tinos and Skyros island during those “hard” months, first we decided to take some time off traveling. But we also gained so much experience, enough to practice it on our own travels. And there is plenty to share in an article for you!
